This is a project I created to challenge my students and incorporate some gifted standards into my normal Social Studies and ELA curriculum.

Create Your Own Colony project is a step-by-step project where students get to create their own colony set in the 1700s. (I would suggest completing some type of research on the original 13 Colonies with your students before this project. Check out my resources on that subject matter!)

Students will create their own colony by:

-choosing a location

-researching the geographical characteristics of that location

-creating a map of their colony

-creating a flag for their colony

-choosing visual representations for their colony

-explaining why they are establishing their colony

-deciding what kind of people will populate their colony

-creating a declaration of independence for their colony

-creating a constitution for their colony

This project also includes rubrics for every single part of the project, including a presentation.
