Description

This bundle contains a series of six biographies on individuals associated with the women's rights movement in the United States during the 19th century.

The biographies can either be printed directly OR used readily converted to digital activities using Google Slides.

The first biography focuses on Elizabeth Cady Stanton and her relationship with Susan B. Anthony, her participation in the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848, and her role in writing sections of the Declaration of Sentiments.

The second biography focuses on Sojourner Truth focuses and her escape from slavery in New York, her attendance at the 1851 Ohio Women's Rights Convention, and her widely-recognized speech, "Ain't I a Woman?"

The third biography focuses on Susan B. Anthony and her involvement in the temperance movement, her role in founding both women's rights and anti-slavery organizations, and her 1871 trial for attempting to vote.

The fourth biography focuses on Lucretia Mott and her involvement in progressive and abolitionist causes, her role at the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, and her participation in the Free Religious Association of 1867.

The fifth biography focuses on Harriet Tubman, emphasizing her role as a "conductor" along the Underground Railroad and her involvement in the women's suffrage movement.

The final biography focuses on Sarah and Angelina Grimké and their first-hand experience with slavery on the family's plantation in South Carolina, their activism in the abolitionist movement of the mid-1800s, and their early involvement in the women's rights movements in the United States.

Each biography includes a series of questions based on the reading.

In using this in my own class room, students are encouraged to:

1. Number the paragraphs

2. Read the biography

3. Highlight answers in the reading

4. Use complete sentences.

The answer key demonstrates these steps.

I am sure you will find these a valuable addition to your curriculum.

You can also purchase these biographies as part of a general series I have posted on Amped Up Learning: Biographies in American History.

Please do not consider this an end-all for the suffragist movement. It is my intent to add additional biographies in the near future.
