In this 18 page packet students will have everything they need to complete a research project on personal finance. While completing this project, students will develop an understanding of how much it really costs to live on their own and support themselves. They will find a job and then will plan a household budget based on that income/salary.

This budgeting activity will require students to: find a job they qualify for with a high school diploma OR college degree (based on their future plans), find a place to live, an automobile, car insurance, food, utilities etc. all within their budget. Students will also learn the pros and cons of credit and credit card use and will compare the features of 2 credit card offers. Lastly, students will write a written reflection of their overall budget and learning.

This project is very “hands-on” and forces students to really research the expenses applicable to running their own household. Several free public access video links are included, which will guide students in their research on finding a career, budgeting, and the basics of credit.

***Teacher Directions and Step-by-step student directions and worksheets are included.

You will receive a PDF, PPT and Google version for your use!
