Description

Using the resources provided, your students will compare the reasons for the Fall of the Roman Empire in 476 AD by participating in a Socratic Seminar Activity OR a Document Based Analysis student activity (teacher choice which activity to use)! 

Activity # 1- For the Socratic Seminar Activity your students will:

1) Read a short (who, what, when, why) warm-up reading on the Fall of the Roman Empire and discuss the class discussion question provided.

2) Read and examine 20 short primary source excerpts, charts etc. and answer Comprehension Questions about each source to guide understanding

3) Using the template provided, cut out and create a name plate for the seminar.

4) Examine the grading rubric (included) and be prepared to participate in the class discussion.

5) Participate in a Socratic Seminar style class discussion and will discuss the open-ended questions INCLUDED in this activity.

6) Complete a creative EXIT CARD/ Assessment Activity.

 

Activity # 2- For the Document Based Activity your students will:

1) Read a short (who, what, when, why) warm-up reading on the Fall of the Roman Empire and discuss the class discussion question provided.

2) Work in small groups (or they can work independently) to read and examine 20 short primary source excerpts, charts etc.

3) Answer Comprehension Questions about each source provided to guide
and check for understanding using the organizer provided.

4) As a class, discussion the list of discussion questions to gauge overall student understanding of the documents.

5) Complete a creative EXIT CARD/ Assessment Activity.
