Description

A free sample from my set of puzzles that have students practice critical thinking skills and apply concepts from NGSS MS-PS-3.

UPDATED on 10/8/19  To correct typo in question #4  It should have read "The book has a kinetic energy of 7 J."

 Ghostly Hidden Message

*With work calculations (IN FREE SAMPLE)

Halloween Themed (Ghost) puzzle. Questions require students to calculate work, and potential energy using the provided formulas (W=f*d and GPE= mgh). Also requires students to work with kinetic energy quantitatively (have to determine the new amount of Kinetic Energy if the Mass is halved or doubled while the speed stays the same or if the speed doubles, while the mass stays the same) but do not have to use the formula for kinetic energy.

OTHER Puzzles in NGSS MS-PS-3 Skill Boosters: Review Puzzles

Energy Logic Puzzle

Students will use logic skills and background knowledge about types of energy and the relationship between kinetic energy, mass and speed to solve the puzzle. Students are not required to us the formula for kinetic energy but have to determine the new amount of Kinetic Energy if the Mass is halved or doubled while the speed stays the same or the new amount of Kinetic Energy if the speed doubles, while the mass stays the same.

Cactus Hidden Message

Cactus themed puzzle. Students will use background knowledge about types of energy and the relationship between kinetic energy, mass and speed to solve the puzzle. Students are not required to us the formula for kinetic energy but have to determine the new amount of Kinetic Energy if the Mass is halved or doubled while the speed stays the same or the new amount of Kinetic Energy if the speed doubles, while the mass stays the same.

Donut Hidden Message

Donut themed puzzle.

Ghostly Hidden Message

* one without work calculations (Bonus for PURCHASED product ONLY)

Halloween Themed (Ghost) puzzle. Questions require students to calculate potential energy using the provided formula (GPE= w*h). Also to work with kinetic energy quantitatively (have to determine the new amount of Kinetic Energy if the Mass is halved or doubled while the speed stays the same or if the speed doubles, while the mass stays the same)
