Description

Students will read and analyze an account from Pliny the Younger of the destruction of Pompeii by Mt. Vesuvius by answering 12 questions and completing 4 creative tasks. The tasks are about 6 types of people from Pompeii, "what if your town was frozen in place and time due to a natural disaster and re-discovered 300 years from now," a memorial stamp, and a museum exhibit. The answers are included and this would be great for a sub!

 Sample questions include:
--Explain the phrase “scholarly acumen” in your own words.

--What did Pliny tell people the broad sheets of fire were?
--Based on what you read, how did Pliny the Elder die?
--Specifically regarding the “inventing fictitious danger,” do we see anything like that in modern times? If so, give an example.
--In what way(s) was the second day most similar to the events of the first day What were the most stark differences?
