In this complete lesson, using the READ + TALK+ WRITE strategy, on Japanese Internment, students will:

1) complete a warm-up activity- students will be shown 12 power-point slide pictures/clues that give facts about internment. Students will be told to guess what event is being described just based on the clues. Teachers can use this as a lead in to the topic. (Most students think the Holocaust is being described)

2) work in pairs to examine and orally discuss primary source photographs, primary and secondary source readings and answer critical thinking questions about each, following each step of the READ + TALK + WRITE strategy.

3) As an assessment/exit card activity (WRITE), students will respond to a creative writing prompt to allow teachers to assess their overall understanding of Japanese Internment.

Includes TEACHER DIRECTIONS and ALL MATERIALS (POWER-POINT, HANDOUTS, READINGS)

You will receive a PDF, PPT and google version for your use!
