Description
This lesson package is all about Philip II of Spain. Students will be introduced to Philip via a PowerPoint that reviews his connections to other important absolute monarchs (e.g., Isabella & Ferdinand, Charles V) and some of the important events of his reign (e.g., the defeat of the Spanish Armada). Students will then set about determining whether Philip was a Successful Man or a Miserable Monarch. Students will do this by analyzing a secondary source about his life. As they read, they will categorize his decisions as successes or failures.
After collecting this evidence, students will make their final judgments on Philip using the information in their graphic organizer to support their conclusion.
*Note: While this lesson takes place during a 50-minute class period, students will not likely finish during this time. It is anticipated that students will finish the work as homework or in a subsequent class.
