Description

Welcome! This listing features a full-page study guide that complements a typical chapter about earthquakes for a middle school earth science course.
  • Students begin by defining the term earthquake.
  • Then they answer four successive fill-in-the-blank sections on the topics of earthquake frequency/earthquake basics, the San Andreas Fault, and tsunamis. I included word banks for the fill-in-the-blank sections.
  • In the following section, students write in the appropriate term on the blank line next to the provided definition for hypocenter, focus, seismic waves, and epicenter.
  • In the next section, students write a “P” on the blank line if the characteristic describes a primary wave, an “S” on the line if the characteristic describes a secondary wave, and an “L” on the line if the characteristic describes a surface wave.
  • In the last section, students match the term to the definition for the Richter scale, seismologists, seismograph, and seismogram.

This PDF document will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader program. It includes a two-page key with the answers in red font.
