Decline and Fall of the Akkadian Empire Simulation - Mesopotamian Empires

Bring history to life by having students work to together to keep their civilization from declining and falling. Students will read passages on the decline of the Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian and Persian Empires. They will then experience forces that have brought down one of these empire (Akkadian) in a simulation. They will work together and against each other, battle invaders by playing Rock, Paper, Scissors, suffer the impacts of diseases or natural climate change by rolling dice and more. By the end, students will identify which empire's decline the class simulated. Finally, students will gain an understanding of how often times, the forces contributing to a civilization's decline were outside of their control.
