Cracking the Code- Your First Medical Acronyms

A great 'First Day of Medical Terminology Course' activity!

Helping students realize that Med Term isn’t just about memorizing random words- it’s a whole new language. These activities will get everyone talking and naturally introduce the idea that acronyms are everywhere in healthcare. 

(Besides their textbook, I give students a 'first day folder' with various information in it, along with a list of healthcare abbreviations and acronyms commonly used. I made this activity as a way to get them thinking 'acronym' and introducing this whole new language.)

This first day quick activity/ icebreaker set of activities has more of an emphasis on creativity and teamwork, rather than ‘correctness’. It's FUN, they will make up some acronyms as a team and later share with the class.  

The activities are focused on Acronyms.

There are several parts to this activity… do them all or pick what works best for your group and the time you have!
