Muscular System Disorder Latin Root Word Worksheet

When I researched how to better teach muscular system disorders to my human anatomy and physiology class, creating and using a Latin root word worksheet came to mind. Muscular system disorders, diseases, and injuries are plump-full of Latin root words. If my students can't identify the compound terms' prefixes, roots, and suffixes they are a lot less likely to differentiate the ailments that sound alike.

This three-page activity has the same directions as my other Latin root word worksheet publications.

• Students first are directed to slash each compound word into its prefix, root, and suffix.
• Then students are directed to sequentially write the English meaning of each part in between forward slashes on the top numbered line.
• Finally, students are directed to accurately define the term on the designated lines.

This lesson covers the following terms: myalgia, hypertonia, hypotonia, hypertrophy, hypotrophy, fibromyalgia, myopathy, torticollis, fasciitis, atrophy, muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, plantar fasciitis, lactic acidosis, tetanus (infection), and contracture.
