Description

Students will learn about, or review, the Spanish mission system in Texas by reading an overview of the history of missions, life in missions, and facts about different missions. They will answer 18 questions, complete 5 tasks for 22 vocabulary words, and complete a 5 part map activity. There is a teacher information page with 3 suggestions for how this can be completed. Depending on how you use this, it can work for a sub! The answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--Why was the site chosen for a mission so important?
--Which challenge do you think was most difficult for the missionaries to overcome and why? Which challenge do you think was most difficult for Native Americans to overcome and why?
--Describe a successful mission.
--Do you think the missionaries could have approached their purpose from another angle which might have prevented Native Americans from resisting their efforts? Explain your answer fully.
--Which mission still stands on the El Paso Mission Trail?
--Summarize why Mission de Valero was founded.
--the last question is a creative task involving the origins of the word "Texas"
