The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo Text and Image Analysis

Students will read excerpts from the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of the Mexican-American War, answer 15 questions, and analyze 4 images (prompts are provided). The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! 

 Sample questions include: 
--Why might this have been written as a treaty of not just peace, but also of friendship?
--How does the treaty address prisoners of war?
--Discuss the ramifications of the treaty for Mexicans living in territory now on the United States side of the border.
--Rewrite Article XI in your own words to demonstrate understanding and explain why you think it had to be included in the treaty. 
--Considering the United States won the war, why is Article XII in the treaty?
--What would either side benefit from the terms in Article XIII? The inclusion of which item do you think was most important to each party and why?
