Description
Students will read and analyze the speeches Truman gave on V-E Day and V-J Day at the end of World War 2 (WW2, WWII). There are 21 questions between the 2 speeches, 5 compare and contrast questions, and 2 creative tasks. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--Why isn't their rejoicing as full force as possible?
--How can peace be built?
--Which of Truman's statements in this speech do you think was most emotionally impactful to Americans in 1945 and why?
--Explain why it was noteworthy that the surrender was unconditional.
--Why does Truman acknowledge that the country's first thoughts are with those who were killed or maimed?
--Explain this statement in your own words: No victory can make good their loss.
--Which speech do you think meant more to Americans at the time and why?
