Description
The Five Nations: Map, Research & Discover
Take students beyond memorizing names and locations with this engaging 3-page geography and research activity focused on the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee (Creek), and Seminole Nations.
Students become history researchers as they map historical homelands, investigate each nation, compare their findings, and reflect on what they learned.
What’s Included
?️ Page 1 — Map the Homelands
Students use reliable sources to identify and map the approximate historical homelands or settlement areas of the Five Nations. They label states, color their maps, and answer map-based questions.
? Page 2 — Research the People
Students complete a six-category research chart covering:
- Homeland & location
- Government & leadership
- Community & society
- Education, language & culture
- Distinctive facts
Scaffolded clues help students get started without doing the research for them.
? Page 3 — Bring It Together
Students use their completed map and research chart to compare the Five Nations, identify similarities and differences, consider the role of geography, and reflect on what they discovered.
? Teacher Answer Key
A convenient one-page reference with possible answers and research evidence. Because students may use different reliable sources, the key allows for reasonable variations rather than requiring one exact response.
