Fort St. Louis Primary Source Analysis

Texas History students will read an excerpt of Alonso de Leon's expedition to find La Salle's settlement at Fort St. Louis during the Age of Exploration, answer 9 questions, and complete one creative task. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! 

Sample questions include: 
--Why did La Salle leave the fort in search of the MS river? Why might he not have waited for a French solution?
--Where did de Leon and his men find the remains of Ft. St. Louis?
--Explain the meaning of “principal house.” What do you think that house might have been?
--de Leon notes that the settlement was situated to be defensible regardless of event, so why, or how, do you think the Natives overpowered and massacred the French?
