Description

Use the Let’s Introduce Our Students To Literary Analysis MIni-Unit to provide your students with the tools and strategies that will benefit them throughout their academic career and beyond.

Learning how to analyze literature can be very challenging. Using genre analysis to introduce this type of analytical thinking is a perfect way to begin. Once your students have completed this unit, they will be familiar with the concept of analysis and how to approach it. Then they can begin applying this familiar concept to more complex topics.

The Let’s Introduce Our Students To Literary Analysis MIni-Unit has been developed to provide you with the resources necessary to successfully introduce and teach your students how to use analysis to determine which genre a passage would most likely appear in. The sequence of this unit is as follows:

  • introduce and define the concept of literary analysis
  • define the characteristics of specific genres
  • create a fiction genre analysis exemplar
  • create an ACED short response exemplar explaining their analysis of the fiction passage
  • create a nonfiction genre analysis exemplar
  • create an ACED short response exemplar explaining their analysis of the nonfiction passage

Once these actives have been completed, you will be able to provide your students with opportunities for deliberate, focused practice using the Genre Analysis Guide. These can be used with any passages you provide.
