Description

Welcome! This listing features a two-page study guide about the moon for an astronomy unit in primarily a middle school Earth Science Course.

This study guide has five sections detailed below.
  • Sketch and label the remaining seven phases of the lunar cycle starting with the midpoint of the cycle, the full moon
  • Sketch and label the position(s) on Earth where one would experience high and low tides in relation to the moon / Sketch the layout of the Earth, sun, and moon during a solar eclipse. Label all three celestial bodies. Sketch, shade in, and label the umbra and penumbra
  • Short answer – answer four questions relating to the following topics – Regular high tide versus spring tides, what the astronomical terms gibbous and crescent have in common, compare and contrast rotation and revolution with respect to the moon, and explain why the solar and lunar eclipses don’t occur every month
  • Multiple choice – students schedule their next fishing trip from a given current date to coincide with the full moon, etc.
  • Fill-in-the-blank – Students find the home of ten vocabulary terms in this section that covers the subtopics of lunar surface features to its orbit with the assistance of a word bank.

This PDF file will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC program. It comes with a two-page key with the answers in red font.
