Description

Students will read and analyze excerpts from John L. O'Sullivan's "The Great Nation of Futurity" and his early thoughts on the precursor to Manifest Destiny by answering 24 questions and completing 3 extension tasks. They will also analyze 4 images according to provided prompts. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Per O’Sullivan, what is the basis of America and Americans?
--Pick an academic word not used in the text that describes America’s destined principle.
--Summarize the purpose of O’Sullivan’s references to religion.
--How does O’Sullivan identify, or define, American nationality?
--Which rights does O’Sullivan hold to the highest degree of importance, or power, and why?
--Where in this text does O’Sullivan most ignore slavery and why?
--If you could retitle this document, what would you choose and why?
