Description

Students read excerpts from the Populist's 1892 party platform, answer 10 questions about populism and the historical context of the Gilded Age, respond to 4 creative tasks/questions, and analyze 6 images in 3 different ways. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--Who, or what, is the “ermine of the bench?” Why was that corruption a matter of concern for Populists?
--Make 3 academic connections from, “urban workmen are denied” to “colossal fortunes for a few,” to the platform's historical context.
--How could Populists have achieved their goal of restoring the government to the hands of “plain people?”
--Explain the point being made in the “our country finds itself” paragraph in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--How, or why, did the items from 1-5 resonate with the Populist base?
