Our Learning Community Collaborative Poster- Back to School/ First Day Activity

A perfect activity for the first week of school! Work with your students to establish classrooms norms and procedures, decide on shared values, and reflect on strategies for creating a positive learning community. Have students record their ideas using this poster, and then display!

 Ideas for Use

• Each student in a group receives an 8.5” x 11” page to complete, and their individual page becomes part of a larger group poster, reinforcing that every individual has an important role to play in the classroom.
• The class is divided into groups, and each group receives an 8.5” x 11” page to complete. Then the four pieces are put together, which involves more students in the making.
• Use the pages to record notes from a class discussion about norms, procedures and values. Once they are decided upon and agreed to, post a final copy in the classroom.
• (Hint: You could also laminate the templates and write on them with a dry-erase marker to make changes/updates as the year progress, or to reuse year after year).

To display their completed poster, students trim along the dotted edges and place their pages side by side on a background.
