Description

Students will read excerpts from the Schenck v. US ruling on the Sedition Act of WW1 and the First Amendment, 2 excerpts from Wilson and Debs, analyze 3 images, and answer 20 questions of varying degrees of difficulty. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--What purpose does the second paragraph serve in the ruling?
--How did Schenck make a connection between conscription and conviction?
--On what grounds did Holmes conclude that the First Amendment did not apply as a protective measure in this case?
--Where do the First Amendment and Congress at times find themselves on opposite sides of a situation?
--Identify the main point of Wilson’s excerpt. Citing evidence from the text, do his sentiments support Schenck or the Supreme Court ruling?
