US v. Nixon Primary Source Analysis

Students will read excerpts from Chief Justice Burger's unanimous opinion on US v. Nixon regarding Executive Privilege as related to the investigation surrounding Watergate. They will then answer 15 questions of varying degrees of difficulty (one has students visit two Library of Congress websites to analyze political cartoons). The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Explain why Burger made a reference to Marbury v. Madison.
--Provide a contextually appropriate explanation for the phrase, “insulates a president.”
--Explain what would prevent the courts from carrying out its Constitutional responsibilities.
--Identify and explain a connection between this case and Nixon’s resignation 2 weeks later.
