Description

Students will read President John F. Kennedy's 1963 speech on the Space Race (To the Moon) and answer 14 questions. The reading and questions are chunked to make it more manageable for students. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--Citing evidence from the text, why does JFK say it is so important for the United States to remain prominent in the Space Race?
--Explain the responsibility President Kennedy believes is in American hands to achieve this lofty goal.
--Inferring from the text, how would space be the great international equalizer?
--Should Kennedy have admitted that the United States was “behind” in the Space Race, why or why not?
--If Americans knew what the Space Program would cost in terms of lives lost, would they have supported it, why or why not?
