JFK Speech on Civil Rights Primary Source Analysis

Students will read President John F. Kennedy's 1963 speech on Civil Rights and answer 19 questions. The reading and questions are chunked to make it more manageable for students. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--How does JFK make a connection between Vietnam and education?
--If new laws won’t make “men see right” then what could?
--In the “fires of frustration” paragraph, how does JFK imply that for the good they might have been doing, the tactics of both Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X are no longer sustainable?
--Write a synonym for “arbitrary indignity.”
--Identify the importance for Kennedy in enforcing the Brown v Board of Education decision.
--How is Kennedy ensuring that the government won’t stand alone in its attempts to counter segregation and inequality?
