The Alien and Sedition Acts Point of View Analysis

Students will read and analyze 3 points of view on the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 by answering 36 questions and completing an extension task. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate!  

***UPDATED to include an additional compare and contrast activity for the sources (examples included).***

Sample questions include:
--How does Pickering counter the argument that the Sedition Act violates freedom of speech/press?
--In general, how is determined who is a “pest” of society, and at what point is “tranquility” disturbed?
--Identify the “instrument” of the compact.
--In what way does the Legislature specifically see these acts as subverting the Constitution?
--Does item 2 appear to support or oppose the Virginia Legislature’s stance and why?
--Which of Pickering’s points does the Virginia Legislature most and least effectively counter and why?
