Description

Students read 8 quotes about the War of 1812 from various point of view as well as excerpts from the Star Spangled Banner, analyze 9 images, answer 15 questions, and respond to up to 6 extension tasks. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--Inferring from prior knowledge, which embargo is Giles referring to and why was it enacted?
--From his point of view, has the embargo been positive or negative for Americans?
--Why did Clay prefer war to peace as it stood in 1812?
--Give an example of a “laurel” to be acquired.
--Compare and contrast Abigail’s point of view with the one she heard from “the pulpits.” What is the “house divided” in reference to? Explain how opposite points of view could co-exist at the war’s commencement.
--Which event are the two quotes above likely referring to?
