Decorate your room with attractive, meaningful, and engaging academic resources such as this American History Era Word Wall and Timeline set! Build it throughout the year, or display it from the first day to show your students where the class will go. There are 2 events/terms/years per page instead of each event/person/year getting its own page. This is especially helpful if you do not have a lot of wall space (like me!)
I personally display the full era wall in the hallway from the first day of school, and then add a new picture to my bulletin board in the classroom every time we cover something new for that era. By doing this, students constantly see the full era timeline and years in the hall, but they also get to help piece the pictures and years together in a meaningful way as we explore each unit in the classroom.
Either way, just print, laminate, and decorate!
