Unit Study | Remember the Sabbath Day (Grades 3-6)

Teach children why God gave the Israelites the Sabbath commandment with this ready-to-use Bible unit study for grades 3-6.

Remember the Sabbath Day is a 26-page Bible unit study that takes students to Mount Sinai, where God established His covenant with Israel and gave His people the Ten Commandments. Through close Bible reading and hands-on activities, students will examine the Fourth Commandment and discover what it means to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy (Exodus 19-20).

Students will explore the Israelites’ journey from Egypt to Mount Sinai, the signs that accompanied God's presence on the mountain, and the covenant He made with the House of Israel. They will learn why God set the seventh day apart as a day of rest, how the Sabbath served as a sign between Him and Israel, and what the Sabbath teaches us about holiness, obedience, trust, and honoring God.

This Unit Study includes a ready-to-use lesson plan, three learning objectives, a Bible memory verse, key vocabulary, a child-friendly Bible story, discussion questions, and a simple object lesson. Students reinforce their learning through Bible comprehension worksheets, a Ten Commandments quiz, covenant and Sabbath studies, creative writing, coloring and drawing activities, a word search, and a Sabbath banner craft.
