Wonders Reading 2020 Sixth Grade Weekly Selections Quiz Packet

If the weekly quizzes that come with the Wonders 2020 program don't fit your needs, this packet can help. I didn't want to give the "cold reading" quizzes, because I want to test the story we have spent all week on. But I didn't like the comprehension and vocabulary quizzes that come with the program because many of the questions or answer options are confusing to my students. I also wanted to include some short answer questions, since that is something my students need lots of practice with. I wanted to give them opportunities to work on close reading, since that is emphasized in the Common Core standards. Lastly, I wanted something that was easy to grade on a weekly basis and would make me feel confident about the reading grade they ended up with when report card time came.

This packet includes a 15 point, two page quiz which can be copied back to back for each selection in the sixth grade Wonders 2020 Literature Anthology book. They include vocabulary, comprehension, and short answer questions, some of which are higher level "How can you tell?" types. Some of the vocabulary questions require application rather than simple memorization of definitions. They are intended to be used as open book quizzes so even your struggling readers can be successful if they have been engaged during the week. A detailed answer key is included with answer options for the short answer questions. I hope this packet will make you feel better about your weekly reading assessment.
