Description

Narrative:

All of the weeks include a seesaw activity link and google classroom activity link! Rubric included as well for grading :)

Week 1:

Students will learn about narrative writing and draft their own version and use illustrations to spark their ideas!

Week 2:

Students will look at the plot mountain and how stories use it and how they can use it in their own writing! They will also add in strong emotional words using a kids thesaurus connected to EMOJI’s.

Week 3:

Students will practice writing stories that SHOW not tell and add in dialogue to make their writing exciting and like a movie in your mind!

Week 4:

Students will make a final draft of their own stories with skills they have learned in the past weeks to create an illustrated final draft, with rubric etc.

Fairy tale:

This four week mini course includes seesaw and google classroom links for weekly activities for the students to follow to learn how to write an adaptation of a fairy tale. The students will learn what constitutes a fairy tale, comparing original vs. adaptations, getting to watch a lot of read alouds of adaptations to motivate them and finally the last week drafting their own to share and celebrate! There is a rubric at the end too for grading purposes!

Week 1:

Discuss components of a fairy tale and analyze and compare traditional version of Cinderella to an adaptation. Draft their own version of Cinderella!

Week 2:

Analyze and compare traditional version of Little Red Riding Hood to an adaptation. Draft their own version of Little Red Riding Hood!

Week 3:

Analyze and compare traditional version of The Three Little Pigs to an adaptation. Draft their own version of The Three Little Pigs.

Week 4:

Choose one of the adaptations they have written and draft it out using a story mountain, creating their story, editing and drawing illustrations and front cover. Finally, celebrating and recording themselves reading the book to share with the rest of the class!

Opinion:

Perfect for Distance learning! Could work for 2nd-4th grade.

Students will go through 4 weeks learning about how to properly write an opinion paragraph with an opening hook, an opening opinion statement, reasons, examples, transition words and restating their opinion! It will teach them to use OREO acronym with a catchy song to help them organize their ideas for the writing! Includes rubrics, graphic organizers, fun idea wheel spinner for opinion writing prompts and more!

 

Informational:

Informational writing unit with 6 weeks of instruction included!

 

Students use their own expertise to create an informational book on topics they are familiar with! Students will learn how to write a hook, topic sentence, details to support topic and closing sentence. Alongside this the students will learn about text features including captions, pictures, glossary, bold words and table of contents!

This is digital and printable for use in the classroom or digitally with Seesaw and Google. Your students are guaranteed to enjoy this writing project!
