Description

Students will learn about the Japanese-American soldiers of the 442nd Regiment of World War 2 (WWII, WW2) with this webquest. They will visit 4 websites, watch one video, answer 27 questions, and complete a creative task. The answers are included where appropriate.

Sample questions include:
--Compare and contrast the experiences of mainland Japanese-Americans with those living in Hawaii after Pearl Harbor was attacked.
--What was the “reward,” so to speak, for a job well done in the Varsity Victory Volunteers?
--Why was Noboru excited to join the military?
--Explain the racism Noboru was confronted with shortly after enlistment and how he reacted to it.
--What was the 442nd’s job when they got to France?
--Summarize the role patriotism played for Noboru before, during, and after the war.
--What do you think was the greatest accomplishment of the 442nd and why?

The websites are history.com, defense.gov, nisei.hawaii.edu, and pbs.org. The video is about 10 minutes long from "Memoirs of World War 2" and is a veteran's account of his time in the 442nd.
