Description
Texas teachers, this is a set of reading academic vocabulary flashcards. The vocabulary words are from the Texas TEKS and previous STAAR tests. The words have been broken down into 7 categories (vocabulary, comprehension, fiction, nonfiction, poetry/figurative language, drama, and persuasion), and they are color coded. You can use these together as a set, or break them apart and only use the words you are working on. For example, if you are working on poetry then you could pull out all of the pink colored cards. I have also included 4 vocabulary graphic organizers that can be used with the flashcards.
**Knowing the meaning of the reading academic vocabulary is essential in order for students to be able to pass the state test. This set of flashcards can be used in many different ways in order to guarantee your students know their academic vocabulary before they take the state test.
How to use:
The flashcards can be used as a warm-up, an intervention tool, to play the game around the world (for whole or small group), in a center, an easy oral assessment, or take them with you and quiz students while they are at a bathroom break or waiting in line.
