This resource is a 5-Act, 25-role reader's theater script for the Aztec Empire! Reader's Theater is an engaging instructional strategy for middle grade students that allows them to act out various historical scenes. The acts are as follows:
Act I: An Empire is Born (The Triple Alliance)
Act II: Social and Religious Systems
Act III: Farming and Education
Act IV: The Capital City (Tenochtitlan)
Act V: The Conquistadors Arrive (Montezuma II and Hernan Cortes)
Each act includes discussion questions. There is a quiz for students at the conclusion of the play, as well as an extension activity in which students will create their own script for the building of Mexico City!
Answer key is provided for the quiz.
