Characteristics of a Civilization Distance Learning

In the next phase of the unit, we define what civilization is and then we introduce a few of the culture regions of South America. While discussing these civilizations, I remind the students that their summative project will be creating a website on a civilization of their choosing, hopefully, they can start thinking which one to pick over the next few lessons.

Bellwork: Using google, look up the word “civilized”, write the two definitions below.

What are some “civilized” characteristics of American society?

Instruction: The students will first have a short presentation on the five characteristics of civilization and they will fill in a graphic organizer. Then, they identify the characteristics of a civilization that is being presented in each source.

Exit Ticket: The students will have a structured writing activity where they answer the following question: What do you think is the most important characteristic?
