Description
Students will read and analyze accounts of the First Battle of Bull Run, the Battle of Gettysburg, and the Battle of the Ironclads from the American Civil War by answering 32 questions (including comparing and contrasting the accounts). This can be used as a complete packet, a jigsaw, or divided into stations.
***UPDATED to include an additional compare and contrast task (with examples!).***
The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--Inferring from prior knowledge, what was the trade connection between Britain and the Confederacy?
--Explain what "death-knell of wooden ships as fighting vessels" means.
--In this context, what does “bear” mean?
--Discuss the nature of the Northern troops and how they didn't necessarily exude confidence to Lincoln.
--What was the end result of the battle but what could the victor not do?
--Describe the conditions that led to the “perfect misery” English experienced.
--Explain a cause and effect of friendly fire removing a “brutal officer” from battle.
--What purpose did the cattle horn serve and did it work?
