Fractured Fairy Tales from the Wild West

All kids are familiar with the fairy tales "Cinderella", "Snow White", and "Little Red Riding Hood!" These three fairy tales have had their characters, settings, and plots fractured just a bit with a wild west flair! Your students will practice their oral fluency and expression, as well as build their vocabularies, while being active, enthusiastic participants in these three terrific fractured fairy tales. "Curly Looses a Cowboy Boot" puts a zany spin on "Cinderella." In it, your students will meet Curly's new step pa Spike, and his three "lowdown yellow-bellied sons." "The Snoozing Cowboy" takes some sharp twists and turns on the classic "Sleeping Beauty!" Your students will enjoy voicing the characters in this fast paced story about the very sleepy Jasper Jr. and the spunky redheaded gal who gives him a smooch and wakes him up. "Little Red Riding Boots" takes the familiar version of "Little Red Riding Hood" and twists and turns the plot and the characters this way and that! Your students will love Little Red Riding Boots and her adventure through the deep, dark woods to take shoofly pie to her grouchy Granny and meet a "surprise visitor" in the end. These fractured fairy tales are a wonderful way to motivate your students to write fractured fairy tales of their own, as well as to compare and contrast other versions of the classic favorites!
