Hōjō Masako YouTube Teaching Resource

This resource is designed to go with the FREE History Detective YouTube episode on Hōjō Masako the Shogun Nun.

The video explores the story of the Hōjō Masako who was the wife of the first shogun of Japan and ruled as regent after he died. It also encourages the students to research another significant woman from Shogunate Japan Tomoe Gozen a famous samurai warrior.

The resource can be used both in classroom lessons and online teaching. The resource goes through some pre-listening vocabulary, before looking at the historical concept of reliability and the resource includes a compare and contrast research activity.

The worksheet has reflection questions and lyrical analysis of the song Behind Every Warrior, which was written exclusively for the topic, and an activity for further research.
