Description

Discover the heart-wrenching stories of children who were sent alone to Australia, lied to about their parents, and subjected to labor, neglect, and abuse in charity-run orphanages. Learn how one social worker, Margaret Humphries, changed the course of their lives and the formal apology by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in 2009.

These resources are for the History Detective YouTube episode: Post WWII Child Migrants to Australia.

Students will complete pre listening vocabulary, listening comprehension questions, a lyrical analysis of the song Suitcase Full of Lies, as well as an evaluation of Kevin Rudd's apology speech to the Forgotten Generation. The evaluation skills in the resources look at the reliability and usefulness of sources.
