Description

Holes: Escape Room is an excellent addition to any study of this novel. Everything is ready to photocopy and use. This product includes four stages.

Stage 1: Students will fill in the answers to clues by selecting the correct syllables from a list provided. Each syllable can only be used once. When the correct words are filled in, the first letters reading down will reveal a mystery answer related to Holes.

Stage 2: Students will complete a 4 x 4 magic square. The numbers students insert into the squares are included in the novel Holes. A clue for each answer and the chapter where it can be found is provided for the students. When all the numbers have been properly inserted into the grid, it will form a magic square in which all the rows, columns and diagonals will have the same sum.

Stage 3: Students will advance through a maze to escape from Camp Green Lake. They can follow each path until they hit a wall or a dirt pile. Along the path of the correct escape route, they will pick up letters. When they have escaped, they will unscramble the letters they have gathered to find a word related to Holes.

Stage 4: As students complete each of the previous stages, they will receive puzzle sheets to cut up. In Stage 4, they are given the final puzzle sheet. The students will only keep some of the puzzle pieces as shown on a student instruction sheet. When they properly assemble these “keeper” puzzle pieces, it will show a quote from Holes.

For this Escape Room, students will need to have access to the novel Holes (at least one per group).

This is one of the activities included in the product Holes – a complete novel study by our store Off the Page. Have fun!

The puzzles were excellent. They connected well with the storyline. Everyone was constantly moving forward and there were multiple ways of solving each one. Great product!
