Description

Students will read and analyze a brief background on the Irish Potato Famine and an account from an Irish perspective from 1847 by answering 17 questions. They will also analyze 3 images and a map according to provided prompts. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--In what way was the potato a blessing and a curse to the Irish?
--Why were the Irish affected by the potato blight so much worse than other Europeans?
--Summarize what made the horrors of the potato famine real for Mahoney.
--Describe your reaction to what Mahoney saw in Skibbereen. Compare and contrast your reaction to the reaction you think he had.
--Why were the living limited in what they could do for those affected by the potato blight?
--Explain the meaning of the phrase, "was passing into the same bourne."
--Compare and contrast the possible effect of the Government meal on the families' physical and psychological well-being.
