Description

Students will read and analyze 4 opinions on the annexation of Texas (2 for and 2 against) and the text of the Joint Resolution for Annexation by answering 22 questions and completing 3 extension tasks. They will also analyze 2 images. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--How did Lamar justify why annexation had been favored immediately after the Texas Revolution?
--Using prior knowledge and inferring from the text, what might happen if for a third time Texas is rejected by the United States (according to Houston)?
--Is Anson Jones for or against annexation? Identify the part of his quote that most supports your answer.
--Why do you think the Resolution includes the phrase, "with proper evidence of its adoption by the people of said Republic of Texas?"
--Explain the importance of the items detailed in the third paragraph. Why would the United States have insisted on it being part of the annexation resolution?
