Description

Students read a brief background of the Texas Rangers and an account of their apprehension of John King Fisher and his band of cattle rustlers, answer 13 questions, and complete a creative task. The reading is two pages, the answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Why do you think it took 12 years for the Rangers to be formally organized and recognized as an official part of Texan law enforcement?
--Write a quote that a Ranger might have said upon hearing "los diablos Tejanos" for the first time. How do you think a Texan citizen would have felt upon hearing the Rangers referred to in such a way?
--Inferring from the text, why do you think the Nueces River area was more prone to violence than other locations used/travelled by cattle ranchers?
--Based on the text, what kind of person was Fisher to his peers? What type of personality might he have had?
--Do you think you could have been a Texas Ranger, why or why not? Explain your thought process fully.
