Students are guided through reading and analysis of literary elements for each chapter of the novel and are then asked to read corollary texts from the Bible, from other John Steinbeck work, from Milton, and from Robert Burn's poems. Students are then asked to write a literary comparison essay as a summative assessment, using evidence. All materials to guide students through activities and learning via powerpoint as well as handouts and readings are included in both editable and PDF formats. This unit should take a few weeks of class time, depending on pacing. Units come in a zip file that will need to be extracted after download. All computers come with extraction programs.
