Target learning: Test and compare a consumer product using one variable in an experimental design.
This lab is about Consumer Science for testing a simple product like paper towels against its competitor. This lab will test marketing, product testing, and economics. Students will learn one of many scientific methods, following instructions, variables in the experiment, analyzing the results, and getting your conclusion. I do this lab at the beginning of the school year to get them excited about one their first science labs.
Sometimes the most expensive paper towel is not the most absorbent. When you compare cost and absorbency you will learning that the cheap brand still does the job of cleaning up liquids but you just will have to use more. Considering the cost you will still save money using the bargain brand but use more sheets of paper towels to do the same job as the higher priced one.
