Description

Welcome! I created this activity to help my middle school physical science students deepen their understanding about the concepts and change in their thermal energy unit. In this activity, students will analyze fifteen scenarios and determine whether they depict melting, freezing, vaporization, or condensation. Then they will map out the phase change for each scenario (ex. gas -> liquid). Finally, students will assess and write whether energy is required or released during the phase change in the fifteen scenarios. I included an additional one-page guide that maps out the patterns of energy change between phase changes. This listing comes with a two-page key with the answers in colored font.

This PDF document will become editable upon conversion to Microsoft Word using an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Program.

This resource complements the following activities related to thermal energy in my store.
  • Calorimeter Lab
  • Thermal Energy Unit Test or Summative Study Guide
  • Conduction, Convection, and Radiation, oh my!

Thank you for your interest. I offer dozens of quality field-tested, innovative, practical, and user-friendly products for several fields of science - biology, chemistry, field ecology, physical science, earth science, space science and human anatomy and physiology.
