This two-page summative pre- and post-course test for middle school earth science covers the following topics: plate tectonics, volcanoes, weathering, erosion, deposition, soil formation, the rock cycle (holistically), fault lines, earthquakes, seismic waves, severe weather (i.e., hurricanes), clouds, weather fronts, air pressure, names/titles of scientists in the various earth science-related fields, crustal deformations, stresses on the crust, winds (global and local), layers of the Earth’s atmosphere, lunar phases, eclipses, the water cycle, movement of the Earth’s crust, rocks and minerals, climate, the Coriolis effect, air masses, Pangea, the Greenhouse effect, convection, meteorological and geological instruments that collect and/or record data, and miscellaneous terms (i.e., leaching).
This test probes students’ understanding of the definitions and classifications of terms related to the subtopics above. This test features thirty multiple-choice questions.
