Description

Students will read a speech given by Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 on the need for inspections and safety/sanitary standards in the meatpacking industry. There are 15 questions and 6 images for students to analyze. There are 4 prompts to respond to on 3 images of the students' choice and a creative task for the 3 other images. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate!Sample questions include:

--Why do you think Roosevelt requested that men outside the Bureau of Animal Industry and Department of Agriculture conduct the investigation?
--What was the purpose of the original food packing label?--Summarize what the report shows.
--Explain the meaning of the phrase "from the hoof to the can."
--What could happen if the public lost interest in this issue? Make a connection between the level of people's interest during Teddy Roosevelt's presidency and similar consumer topics/issues today.
