Description

As a culminating assessment on immigration and industrialization in 19th century America, students will create an immigration and industrialization brochure. The brochure is best created on a piece of heavy paper (12" x 18") folded in half.

Guidelines for the project are presented using PowerPoint. The presentation includes a review of life in the North, working conditions in factories, tenements, and the experience of immigrants during the mid 1800s. Each slide includes notes that can be used to encourage class discussion, and teachers can make whatever adjustments are needed for due date and points available. Finally, the PowerPoint includes several examples of completed projects.

The resource also includes a rubric for scoring the project. Points are assigned for each section of the project. The rubric is saved using Word to allow for changes as needed.

I do offer several political cartoons related to this project, including Welcome to All and Uncle Sam's Lodging House, as well as a video guide on Ellis Island.   You can purchase all four of these resources here: Bundled Mini-Unit: Immigration and Industrialization in 19th Century America.
